Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy outlines how Software That Matters (referred to as “we”, “us”, or “our”) collects, uses, and protects your data. We are committed to ensuring your privacy is protected in accordance with the GDPR.

What Personal Data We Collect and Why

Comments

When visitors leave comments on our blog, we collect the data shown in the comments form, the visitor’s IP address, and browser user agent string to aid in spam detection. If you use the Gravatar service, an anonymized string (hash) created from your email address may be used to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service’s privacy policy is available here. Your profile picture from Gravatar, if applicable, is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Cookies

We use cookies to enhance your experience on our site.

If you leave a comment, you may opt-in to saving your name, email address, and website in cookies. These cookies last for one year. Additional cookies are used to manage login sessions and user preferences, with varying durations as described in this section.

Embedded Content from Other Websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content from other websites. These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with the embedded content.

Analytics

We have Matamo installed on our own servers and automatically track visits to individual pages. Our use of Matamo aligns with the German Government’s rules, allowing us to do this without needing your direct permission.

If you agree to use Matamo, we’ll also use a tracking cookie that expires within 31 days. This helps us make your experience on our site better.

Matomo Opt-Out

To legally analyze Matomo without cookies, there must be an option to object. This is provided through the opt-out feature:

You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
